To be honest, I felt a little iffy about using a restaurant gift certificate because of a couple of things: that people may see me as patay-gutom na gusto lang makalibre, and that the restaurant will likely scrimp on the servings since you're technically not a paying customer. That's why I still have a couple of GC's left which I received as a prize from last year, and I haven't used them yet.
But the upside of using a GC is that, of course, you'll enjoy great savings on your food trip.
Recently I finally mustered the courage to visit Pound By Todd English's SM Megamall branch. Of course, I never went there alone; I enlisted the "help" of my friend to accomplish this "task."
I received the ₱500 GC from the looloo rendezvoos at Pound's Ayala Malls Vertis North branch last February. Their beef burgers didn't impress me, but I hope they will improve on that area soon, since Pound is essentially a burger joint (only a bit more upscale one).
However, I was eyeing to try their crispy chicken burgers so I was definitely going to have them.
Since Pound's offerings were quite pricey, figuring out on how to eat there with a ₱500 GC was definitely a challenge. I kept on looking down on my phone's calculator, time and again, to make sure that our meal won't go short of or beyond the Php500 mark.
After repeatedly making computations, I finally managed to arrive at the exact ₱500 value of my GC. Then we were off to SM Megamall's Mega Fashion Hall where Pound by Todd English was located.
What we ordered:
Sorry if they don't look good in the picture, but they're the best chicken sandwiches I have ever tried, so far! These sandwiches really lived up to their name. So crispy. juicy, and flavorful! While I was unimpressed by their beef burgers when I first tried them, their crispy chicken sliders just blew me away.. right away! They really crackled in my mouth as my teeth sank into them.
While I did not appreciate their Crispy Goat Cheese Salad that much when I first tried it at their Vertis North branch, I grew to like it better the second time around. Now I was able to taste the white goat cheese inside those crispy wanton wrappers. This time, the acidity from the raspberry vinaigrette didn't overpower the salad, thankfully.
One of my favorites from Pound! Best eaten when warm. That's why when I took a picture of it, it was pretty too late kasi paubos na siya hahahaha.
This was just okay. Just the regular bolognese spaghetti with pomodoro sauce, although I liked a bit of twist on it with the garlic chips.
🔸Service water - free
TOTAL - ₱500
Surprisingly, nabusog talaga kami! :)
Fortunately, the TE Crispy Chicken Sliders came in two servings from the price of ₱195, and it still does -- for a premium meal like this, it is definitely a steal -- with or without the GC.
Check out the video clip below:
I was surprised and happy to know that they didn't scrimp on the servings knowing that we only paid our lunch with a gift certificate.
I will definitely come back for the TE Crispy Chicken Sliders, and my other favorites like the tater tots.
Thank you so much Pound by Todd English for the exquisite (free) lunch! Now it is possible for me to have a very satisfying ₱500 meal at such a restaurant like this. :)
